Representation Techniques

Lecture Exercise

During lecture in groups of two, we were to come up with an iconic and indexical representation of an object.
- Iconic Sign - has to resemble/imitate the signified in some way
- Indexical Sign - is directly connected with the signified

Initially, we came up with a watch (iconic) and a clock face (indexical), thinking as long as the two are related, we're on the right track. In the end, the lecturer corrected us because an indexical sign must be directly linked to its iconic (eg. dark clouds ~ rain). Hence, we redid our ideas and came up with a door (iconic) and exit sign (indexical).
