Save, Prevent, Kill - Phase Two
The final design was a debate between draft #2 and 3. Eventually, I chose the latter because:
1) I felt the image is strong enough to invoke the viewer's sympathy (thus able to digest and remember my message) and..
2) it is difficult to capture the photograph for draft #2.
As usual, the draft was scanned and traced in Illustrator. The headings "Save (the) Sharks" was kept to the point and emphasized through its larger font size and color. The tagline says "3 sharks are killed every second for their fins. Stop shark-finning." The STOP wordings are colored red as it is the universal color for "NO" and it captures attention. The white fin is a symbolism for sharks and its placement balances the headings. The long shadow sets the mood of the poster, that the shark is sad (and lonely).
Critique:
-- Some suggested adding more blood and gore to invoke distaste in the viewers.
However, I hope to invoke the compassion of the viewers instead of appealing to their fear/dislike. Thus, I chose not to add blood or make my illustrations too realistic.
-- The message does not say how the viewers can help save the sharks.
Another tagline “Say NO to shark’s fins soup” and a website address for viewer to refer to for more information, will be added.
